VASCO: Mormugao Deputy Collector and the police on Monday removed a statue which was kept at a public place at Mangor.
Speaking to media persons, Deputy Collector Sachin Desai said, “Since the model code of conduct is in force such things cannot be permitted. There was no permission to install the statue. Somebody had kept the statue at a public place without obtaining permission which was removed. The statue will be handed over to those who come and claim it.”
Some locals claimed that they had purchased the statue from contributions.
