CUNCOLIM: Former sarpanch of Velim Cruz Silva has urged the principal chief conservator of forest to conduct scientific mapping to mangroves along the River Sal.
Cruz also requested the chief conservator to use scientific methods to transplant the mangroves on the bigger island and make way for country made canoes.
Cruz also appealed authorities to sustain and restrict mangroves plantation on River Sal which according to him has encroached the River Sal.
Cruz Silva said that due to excessive growth of mangroves traditional Fishing activities has been hit hard.
Cruz Silva has urged the chief forest conservator to save traditional fishing activities. Mangrove growth has proved to be threat to navigation on River Sal. With the mangroves encroaching towards River Sal banks, fishermen say that the navigation channel no more accessible.
