Ponda: The Mangueshi locals on Monday gathered at Mangueshi junction and strongly opposed the construction project coming up in their village along with national Highway in Village Panchayat of Veling-Priol-Cuncoliem.
Local farmers alleged that the project was illegal and the few agricultural lands that existed in Mangeshi along with the streams would get damaged due to the construction project.
“The construction project will destroy not only the agricultural lands, but also pollute the nullas that flow from here to Marcaim village. This will adversely affect farming activities in the villages,” the farmers said.
Locals warned of agitation if the project is forced upon them. They demanded that the TCP department should not provide permissions to the project, which is against their interests. They alleged that already due to government negligence, the farmers have been forced to keep agricultural land fallow in Ponda taluka.
