Manuel Colaso to head Quepem municipality

Manuel Colaso is all set to be elected chairperson of Quepem Municipal Council (QMC) on Thursday.
On the last day of filing nomination, which ended on Wednesday at 12 pm, Manuel Colaso and Dayesh Naik were the only candidates, who filed their papers for the post of chairperson and vice chairperson.
However, Colaso and Naik will be officially declared elected unopposed at election meeting on Thursday.
According to sources, Quepem MLA Chandrakant Kavlekar on Monday convened a meeting with all the councilors.
Speaking to reporters, Kavlekar had stated that all the councilors authorized him to take a decision on appointment of chairperson and accordingly Colaso’s candidature was finalized.
When asked whether chairperson’s post will follow rotation policy, Kavlekar said there is no such understanding. “However, if need arises then internal changes to the post of chairperson will be done by taking into confidence all the councilors.”
