Six members of the Sancoale panchayat on Monday met the Mormugao Block Development Officer (BDO) to press for a fresh date for the special meeting on the no-confidence motion. The group approached the BDO after the earlier meeting, originally scheduled to discuss and decide on the motion, failed to take place as planned.According to the members, the delay has created administrative uncertainty within the panchayat, prompting them to seek immediate intervention from the block office. They told the BDO that the pending no-confidence motion cannot be kept in limbo and requires a formal hearing at the earliest. The team reportedly submitted a written request, urging the officer to fix a new date that allows all members adequate notice and ensures the process is carried out in accordance with the Panchayati Raj Act.Sources said the six members remained firm that the motion must be moved without further postponements, as they believe the panchayat’s functioning has been affected by the current leadership and the lack of clarity over the next steps. They argued that delaying the vote any further would only widen internal rifts and impact developmental work in Sancoale.BDO officials are expected to examine the circumstances under which the earlier meeting could not be held before deciding on a fresh schedule. Once the new date is issued, the panchayat will convene a special session where members will debate and vote on the no-confidence motion. The outcome will determine whether the present leadership continues or is replaced through the statutory procedure.
