Mapusa bus stand pavers removed; residents fume

MAPUSA: The removal of pavers of the Mapusa interim bus stand within 48 hours of its inauguration has left the town residents fuming.

It may be recalled that on January 6, the interim bus stand at Mapusa was inaugurated by the Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza.

Councillor Komal D’Souza said, “People are questioning us as to what is happening in Mapusa. Just after two days of inauguration of the bus stand, the pavers are removed. Sub-standard work is carried out and more than Rs 3 crore of taxpayers’ money is wasted. We want to question the MLA and CM. What was the hurry to inaugurate the incomplete bus stand? Is it just because the elections are approaching?”

Komal said,”Similar to Mapusa bus stand, people are waiting for the underground sewerage project. A decade ago, the sewerage project work had commenced. Roads were dug but till date it is not put to use and around Rs 150 crore of public funds is wasted,” he said.

Sohan Senai, a resident of Mapusa said, “Though this was a temporary bus stand, it should have been put to use at least for few days but today within 48 hours the pavers have been removed.  This bus stand work is done by GSIDC and the local MLA is GSIDC vice chairperson.
