Mapusa bus stand project to be taken up in two phases

MAPUSA: The long pending Mapusa bus stand project will be taken up in two phases.
This was decided at a meeting of officials from the Department of Transport, GSIDC, KTC, Consultant Rahul Deshpande, Mapusa Municipal Council chairperson, chief officer, councillors and Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza, on Friday.
At the meeting, a presentation was made regarding the effect of new bus stand on the traffic flow and traffic management in Mapusa.
After the discussion, it was decided that the new bus stand project work will be undertaken in two phases. First phase will include the terminus and second will include the multilevel parking as well as commercial zone and the total estimated project cost is Rs 3.1 crore.
“The Directorate of Transport is directed to issue note to KTC to clear the entire place for GSIDC to undertake cleaning, fencing and further leveling of acquired land. Since 2015, the land is lying as it is; it is causing air pollution and also inconvenience to the commuters, tourists as well the people of Mapusa,” D’Souza said after the meeting. “We have also put forward request to repair and upgrading of the existing bus stand as soon as possible,” he added.
