MAPUSA: Due to the on-going water crisis in Bardez on account of some technical fault at the Assonora Water Treatment Plant, the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) made an alternate arrangement by supplying water to the residents via tanker.
The water supply to the residents of Bardez will be restored only by September 22.
The areas currently not receiving water supply from the PWD pipeline include Gaunsa Vaddo, Housing Board, Dangui Colony, parts of Khorlim and Shetye Vaddo.
Mapusa Municipal Council  chairperson Ryan Braganza informed Herald that it was a sad state that the residents of Mapusa were facing water issues during the festival and hence the MMC decided to make the tanker arrangement to supply water to the locals.
“The Mapusa Municipal Council  water tanker made around 10 trips on Sunday and 12 trips on Monday to provide people with free water supply. Areas most affected and those in high altitudes are being provided with water.  At the same time, the PWD tanker is supplying water to the worst hit places,” he informed.
The Mapusa Municipal Council  and the PWD have only one water tanker each dedicated for Mapusa. Some residents alleged that the private water tankers taking advantage of the water crisis; were charging exorbitant rates to supply water.
