MAPUSA: A Mapusa Police team led by PI Paresh Naik on Tuesday conducted a special drive to check tenant verification compliance and to keep tabs on migrants staying illegally on rental-basis in Cunchelim, Karaswada and Dhuler. The team checked around 300 rental rooms and found 14 persons residing within the jurisdiction of the Mapusa police, without intimating the police station, without completing the verification. They did not have proper identification documents either, they added. They were identified as Montu Behra (25), Biren Bharya, Indramani Ramnath Keval (34), Sadabari Kevat (36), Paraslal Rampal Kewat (32), Rameshwar Shivprasad Kewat (26), Shavind Shastri Prasad Kewat (21), Vinay Jivan Samad (30), Saheb Ali (22), Babu Rampar Nisar (20), Lalit Mundu (23), Manoj Manulal Aherwal (20), Mohammad Adil (22) and Mohammad Kamran Khan (20). All the 14 persons were placed under arrest, under Section 41 of the CrPC, and were subsequently produced before the SDM, Bardez.
It may be recalled that the Colvale police had undertaken a similar drive, and rounded up a large number of migrants for not submitting the necessary verification documents.
