Mapusa council dependent on Independent candidates favour

MAPUSA: Nine candidates of BJP backed candidates and nine candidates of Mapsekarancho Ekvot won Mapusa municipal council elections and two are Independent. Hung on parlance, both the teams are dependent on the ounce of support of these two Independent candidates to form next council in Mapusa.

The winning candidates include two independent candidates Anand Bhaidkar in ward 1 and Prakash Bhivshet in ward 20.

Winning candidates of BJP backed panel includes Chandrashekhar Benkar (ward 2) who was also the former councillor, Barbara Carrasco (ward3) who is wife of former councillor Martin Carrasco, Sushant Harmalkar (ward 4) a former councillor, Kayle Braganza (ward 9) sister of former chairperson Ryan Braganza, Priya Mishal (ward 10), Kishori Korgaonkar (ward 11), Ashirvad Khorjuvekar (ward 12), Sainath Raul (ward 14) and Swapnil Shirodkar (ward 15) a former councillor. BJP backed panel has three former councillors while six new faces.

Winners of Mapsekarancho Ekvot are Sashank Subhash Narvekar (ward 5), Dr Nutan Bicholkar (ward 6), Tarak Arolkar (ward 7), Vikas Arolkar (ward 8), Kamal D’Souza (ward 13), Viraj Phadke (ward 16), Subhangi Vaigankar (ward 17), Anvi Amey Korgaonkar (ward 18) and Sudhir Kandolkar (ward 19).

Mapsekarancho Ekvot a forum formed by United Opposition including Congress and Goa Forward and likeminded people including social activists, doctors have also managed to give similar level competition to BJP in Mapusa by getting equal seats in the council even after having new faces.
