MAPUSA: Newly elected councillor Shubhangi Vaingankar, who was elected from Ward No 17 of Mapusa Municipal Council joined BJP on Thursday while giving a set back to Mhapshekarancho Ekvot panel.
Vaigankar contested the elections as the candidate of Mhapshekarancho Ekvot panel, a forum formed under leadership of Councillor and Congressman Sudhir Kandolkar. The result of MMC elections had a tie between the Mhapshekarancho Ekvot and BJP-backed panel with nine seats each and two independents.
Due to the tie, the BJP all this while as well as Sudhir Kandolkar were trying to get the support of two independent councillors for their panels to form the new council. However, with Vaigankar joining the BJP, it looks like the BJP is set to form the new council.
