Mapusa fish market dirty water a breeding ground for mosquitoes!

MAPUSA: The Mapusa residents and people visiting the Mapusa fish market have expressed concern over the unhygienic condition of fish market as dirty water from the complex is flowing on the road from the broken drainage pipeline resulting in stink.

The residents said that the dirty water in the area has creating a breeding ground for mosquitoes, which they fear may lead to malaria, dengue and other diseases.

Since the Bardez Administrative Building, Bardez Bazar and several restaurants and offices are located in close vicinity, the people working and visiting the nearby places are forced to negotiate the stinking road.

It is pertinent to note that the pipe has been broken for the last several months and the water is flowing on the road.

Due to unhygienic condition and constant flow of dirty water, this spot is no more used as parking spot like before.

“Dirty water is flowing on the road making the area filthy. The Administrative Building of Bardez is located right opposite to the fish market as well as other shopping centres, restaurants and commercial complex. This is a major health hazard that the municipality needs to tackle at the earliest,” a visitor said.

A local Robin D’Souza said, “The municipality and other authorities visit this area but have turned a blind eye towards this issue. If this is not resolved then disease like malaria and others can spread. I want to question the concerned authority will they take action only after the issue is highlighted. Can’t they see the dirty water flowing. Whom are they waiting for to take action,” D’Souza said.
