MAPUSA: The united opposition in Mapusa on Monday formed a forum under the banner of Mhapshekarancho Ekvot and declared names of 16 candidates who will be contesting for upcoming Mapusa Municipal Council elections.
The forum further claimed that they have extended support in the remaining four wards.
The Mhapshekarancho Ekvot’s ward wise candidates are as follows: Ward 3 — Nalisha Carrasco, Ward 4 — Michael Corrasco, Ward 5 — Sashank Subhash Narvekar, Ward 6 — Nutan Bicholkar, Ward 7 — social activist Tarak Arolkar, Ward 8 — Vikas Arolkar, Ward 9 — Sheetal Vernekar, Ward 11 — Sangeeta Arlekar, Ward 12 — Rohit Volvoikar, Ward 13 — Kamal D’Souza, Ward 14 — Mahesh Shirgaonkar, Ward 15 — Vijeyta Naik, Ward 16 — Viraj Phadke, Ward 17 Shubhangi Vaigankar, Ward 18 — Anvi Korgaonkar and Ward 19 former chairperson Sudhir Kandolkar.
The panel has former chairperson and Congressman Sudhir Kandolkar and the remaining candidates are new faces which include social activists, youth, businessmen, doctors and others.
The Forum is formed with an aim to resolve the unsolved issues of the town and take forward the development of Mapsua.
“The motive of launching the Mhapshekarancho Ekvot is for the development of Mapusa which includes major projects especially the incomplete sewerage project, congestion in market, parking, bus stand etc,” the forum claimed.
