MAPUSA: Mapusa fish and vegetable markets were opened for public after a gap of two months, however only a handful of vendors were seen availing the facility. Most of the vendors continue operating along the road from Mapusa Urban to Old Azilo so there is still a very low footfall in the market premise.
The vegetable market reopened same day as Fish market but vegetables vendors refused to sit and do business inside the premise as they had issue of stocking their goods at night in market. They demanded Mapusa municipality to allow them to store goods at night as they claimed that is was not feasible for them to take back their goods end of every day. MMC refused to accept their demand.
When contacted market committee Chairman Viraj Phadke said, “We have asked vendors to take back their goods at the end of the day but we will be taking necessary decisions about fruit vendors and flower vendors seeing COVID situation in next eight days”.
