The Mapusa Municipal Market merchants have appealed to the municipality to restrain the gate installed in the middle of the market as it causes a problem for people to walk. On Thursday the merchants highlighted that due to the installed gate, the contractor is allowing 2 lane parking in a single-lane parking area.
Due to the costly tender taken by the contractor from the MMC, they are charging a higher price from the commuters. The merchants have urged the municipality to look into this matter and to take strict action against the contractor.
In response to the issues raised by the Mapusa locals with regard to pay parking, the Mapusa Municipal Council Chairperson has appealed to all the shop owners and locals to cooperate with the norms of pay parking. She asserted that the traffic in the market is massive and to tackle the parking the commuters have to face a little difficulty.
According to Bicholkar, the underground cabling and Mapusa drainages work have already commenced. Due to this, the locals are facing a lot of problems travelling in and around the market area not only for commuters and for pedestrians. The main issue which the people have highlighted was the pay parking issue.
The Mapusa Municipal Market merchants claim that the pay parking fee collectors extract more money from the commuters. Calling it a revenue scam they have alleged that the pay parking contractor is fooling people by charging extra money. However the contractor has denied the entire allegation.
Bicholkar further has said that the contractor has taken a tender and will abide by it. She also requested the people to cooperate in this matter. With regard to the pay parking issue faced by the Mapusa locals till underground works are completed.
