MAPUSA: Coming out in support of Sunburn, Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza said the government can review its decision by holding the electronic dance music event by November-end or beginning of December if the COVID-19 situation improves.
On the IIT project issue, he said the project can be shifted to Verna Plateau. “There are lots of spaces which can accommodate the IIT project as the people from Sattari have voiced their opposition to having IIT there. I will meet the Chief Minister and place my suggestion that if people there do not want the project then we can look out for other locations,” D’Souza suggested.
“I got to know that there is strong opposition to the IIT project and if they don’t want it, the project can be shifted to other places where the government has already acquired land,” Joshua added.
“There is government acquired land at Loutolim that can be used. Even the land at Verna Plateau, which was acquired for SEZ, can be also explored. I feel by using this opportunity, Goa can be known as an educational hub but it shouldn’t be done in a haphazard manner. We can have Oxford or Harvard or other international institutes in Goa,” he added.
D’Souza said, “Casinos are directly giving us revenue through taxation but indirectly they are providing 30 per cent employment. If we remove casinos we need to see that the government gets an alternative revenue that we get from casinos and that benefits Goans too”, he added.
