MAPUSA: Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza has said that he would focus his energy in providing basic infrastructure in the town and give back its classic look.
Addressing the media here on Thursday, he said, “I will take up the projects promised in his manifesto and give back the town its classic look from Hutatma Chowk to the court junction.”
“There are a lot of heritage buildings; and there is a need to give them their classic look back. I have been consulting with a few experts who (have restored) heritage building, especially the group behind Fontainhas restoration in 2008. From Hutatma Chowk to the Mapusa Court junction, there is a need to give a new look,” D’Souza said.
“The Mapusa market is the pride of Mapusa. We need to take stock of the situation and focus on primary infrastructure that Mapusa market requires. Parrikar had allotted Rs 20 crore for the market and we had taken a council resolution to go ahead with the project. There is a need to fix the basic requirements first like toilet, drainages and illumination. Vendors need to be given ID card which is a suggestion from the market association in the interest of the local vendors,” he added.
As for Mapusa bus stand, he said that a joint meeting of all concerned would be scheduled to decide on how to take the bus stand project forward.
On Ravindra Bhavan, he said that the Minister for Art and Culture was following up with him on what should happen about the land.
