Mapusa Municipal Council acts against encroachment near old Asilo

In a decisive move, the Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) launched an Anti-Encroachment Demolition drive on Monday to reclaim public space near the historic old Asilo Hospital. The operation targeted several illegal establishments that had encroached upon the area, causing concern among local residents.

As the morning sun rose, the demolition squad initiated the removal of an unauthorized kiosk, symbolizing the MMC’s commitment to maintaining urban order. However, the proceedings took an unexpected turn when the owner of the kiosk managed to obtain a stay order from the High Court, halting the demolition.

This legal twist showcased the complex interplay between urban development, civic authorities, and individual rights. The MMC, known for its stringent stance on encroachments, immediately suspended the demolition as per the court’s directive. The situation illustrated the delicate balance that local administrations often face while upholding the law and responding to legal interventions.
