MAPUSA: Mapusa Municipal Council Chairperson Sandip Falari on Wednesday handed over charge to Vice Chairperson Vijeta Naik.
Falari had submitted his resignation to the Director of Municipal Administration (DMA) on January 7 and the resignation became effective on Wednesday.
Addressing a news conference, Falari stated that MMC has undertaken the work of 108 stalls in the market costing about Rs 3 crore, while the beautification of Mapusa will be done in two parts at a cost of Rs 26 crore.
“The significant achievement of MMC during my tenure was the master plan of Mapusa market which was approved by the council. I initiated discussion with those opposing the demolition of the flower market,” he stated.
“The new market complex will accommodate all the vendors and the market will take care of everybody. The heritage building of old St Mary School, which is under renovation, will be ready soon,” he said.
Falari further said some of his notable achievements include upgradation of Hindu crematorium through MPLAD fund, improvements of toilets in all the 15 wards and installation of organic waste converters.
Falari said in order to generate more revenue, MMC has decided to construct more shops near inter-state bus stand and MMC has taken resolutions to reserve 49 percent of the shops to locals during auction.
“With the support of Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza, MMC has taken
up many welfare and developmental projects like new bus stand, garbage issue, beautification of the town, etc. MMC has also allotted shops to self help groups,” added Falari.
