Mapusa Municipality resolves to fill vacancies of essential staff, take up market devpt project

MAPUSA: During the ordinary meeting of the Mapusa Municipal Council held on Wednesday, the councillors sought to know why several of their past resolutions have not been implemented yet. Councillor Sashank Narvekar questioned the Chairman about the status of several resolutions that were passed in their meetings last year.

“Several resolutions such as tracking system, single window system, appointment of JE and others were passed last year but none are implemented,” said Narvekar.

At the meeting, the council resolved to allot the municipal premises above the KTC Bus Stand to the office of the Assistant Engineer, Sub-div IV, WDXIII (R), Public Works Department, Mapusa, on a rental agreement of 11 months as per the PWD rate after it receives valid occupancy and health certificates.

The decision was taken after the municipality received an application from PWD as the present building from where the Electricity Department also operates is in a pathetic condition and requires repair. At the meeting, Councillor Sainath Raul spoke about the shortage of Junior Engineers and requested that the council appoint one on temporary basis till a permanent JE is appointed, as well as a Municipal Inspector. Chairperson Shubhangi Vaigankar responded that a resolution to appoint a new JE was also passed and will be processed on priority.

The council also decided to convene a special meeting to discuss the development of the Mapusa market.

The councillors also pointed out that the municipal mason has retired and a new mason should be appointed. Councillor Bhivshet made a proposal to procure a new hearse van, an ambulance and a night soil tanker. Bhivshet also made a request to make the Municipal library, which has been closed for years, operational again.
