MAPUSA: The Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) has, at its ordinary meeting on Thursday, unanimously resolved to appoint three new consultants for beautifying Mapusa.
At the meeting Chairman Ryan Braganza put forth before the council the appointment of three consultants for landscape and waste management .
“Roughly Rs 30,000 a month would have to be paid to each consultant. This will not be for lifelong maybe eight months or one year,” Braganza said.
However, objecting to the proposal senior councillor Sandip Falari said that the financial condition of MMC was not sound as they were struggling to pay salaries.
Chief Officer Clen Madeira said that the financial condition is not how it is shown to be. “We have government funds, but proposals are not coming to initiate projects that would take up expenditure from government finds,” he said.
Municipal funds are strained but the government grants, over the years, was left untouched. Proposals which come should be such that allow us to spend money from the government funds. If we do not spend this year, it becomes difficult to spend it next year. There is a need to work out on usage of government grants as around Rs 5-6 crore are there untouched,” Madeira said.
At the same time there was a discussion on shifting the Red Cross Society from the Old Municipality Building to the new KTC constructed stalls.
Sandip Falari said that Francis D’Souza had a special place in his heart for Red Cross Society and to accommodate them.
