Mapusa Police Apprehends Assailant in Municipal Market Assault Case

Mapusa Police have taken into custody Azarudhin Havangi
Shaikh, following an assault incident at the Municipal Market in Mapusa earlier
on Monday. The altercation, driven by a personal dispute, led to the violent
confrontation where the accused purportedly abused and physically attacked
Panchuram Nisad, a vendor from Colvale, causing severe injuries with a metal
object.

The complaint lodged at the police station at 15:30 hours
triggered immediate action from law enforcement. Shaikh allegedly not only
assaulted the complainant but also issued threats of grave consequences,
instilling fear for Nisad’s life.

The Mapusa Police swiftly registered a FIR under sections
504, 324, and 506 (ii) of the IPC and commenced a thorough investigation.
Despite the accused fleeing the scene post the crime, a dedicated team
meticulously gathered intelligence that led to the successful apprehension of Shaikh
at Morod, Mapusa, Bardez, Goa.

Shaikh, a 29-year-old resident of Ektanagar, Mapusa, Bardez,
Goa, was promptly taken into custody. The police are currently interrogating
the suspect and are actively working on recovering the weapon used in the
assault.

The arrest operation, headed by Police Inspector Sitakant
Nayak and supported by a team comprising Police Sub-Inspectors Sunil Patil,
Viraj Korgaonkar, Head Constable Sushant Chopdekar, and Constables Mahesh
Shetgaonkar, Akshay Patil, Sainath Panjikar, and Anand Rathod, all from the
Mapusa Police Station, culminated successfully. DySP Jivba Dalvi and SP North
Nidhin Valsan IPS are overseeing the ongoing investigation, which aims to bring
justice to the victim and ensure swift legal proceedings against the accused.
