Mapusa Police successfully apprehended Nilesh Vinayak Naik, a resident of Corlim, Old Goa, for his involvement in the theft of a 25-gram Gold Kada from Nagvekar Jeweller at the Municipal Market, Mapusa.
The incident unfolded on December 19, 2023, at 18:00 hrs when an unidentified couple entered Nagvekar Jeweller, posing as customers. Seizing the opportune moment, they diverted the attention of the shop owner, Gauresh Nagvekar, and made away with the valuable Gold Kada from the display counter.
Upon filing a complaint with the Mapusa Police Station, an FIR was promptly registered under sections 380 & 34 of the IPC, setting the wheels of the investigation in motion.
Led by PI Shitakant Nayak, a team including PSI VIraj Korgaonkar, HC Sushant Chopdekar, Alvito DMello, PC Rajesh Kandolkar, and LPC Harshada Chodankar worked tirelessly to trace the culprits. Acting on valuable information, the team zeroed in on the suspects in Old Goa while they were attempting to sell the stolen Gold Kada.
Nilesh Vinayak Naik was taken into custody, and the seized Gold Kada was recovered at his instance. Presently, he remains in police custody, with his wife summoned for further inquiries.
The ongoing investigation is under the vigilant supervision of PI Shitakant Nayak, DySP Jivba Dalvi, and SP North Nidhin Valson.
