Mapusa Police told to curb gambling activities

MAPUSA: With the rise in gambling activities, Bardez Deputy Collector issued a memorandum to the Mapusa Police to curb gambling activities.

Deputy Collectod Kapil Phadte has issued a memorandum to Mapusa Police inspector directing to carry out strict patrolling in the vicinity of Bastora Village Panchayat and to enforce the provisions of the Goa Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act 1976.

This action was initiated after the Deputy Collector received several oral complaints of illegal gambling activities in Bastora Village Panchayat jurisdiction.

It is learnt from the reliable sources that during the night especially after 11 pm, illegal gambling activities are openly carried out in the jurisdiction of Bastora Village Panchayat. However, the local authorities have completely turned a blind eye towards these illegalities.

Meanwhile on Thursday evening, Deputy Collector Phadte along with Mapusa Police had visited the Bastora village and stopped the illegal gambling activities, which were going on openly in the fields, at Banar.
