MAPUSA: Some residents of Mapusa on Friday confronted PWD Assistant Engineer Subhash Belgaonkar demanding that the town residents be supplied sufficient and clean water.
Earlier, Herald had highlighted that, for over a month, the residents of Bardez taluka are being supplied insufficient and dirty water. And the Friday’s confrontation was in the backdrop of this issue.
After listening to the grievances of the Mapusa residents, the Assistant Engineer assured them that they would be supplied sufficient and clean water.
“Things have improved over the last two days. The turbidity of water has gone down and now we will get clean water,” he said.
Pravin Asolkar, a local, told Herald that despite the PWD Minister’s assurance that water supply in Mapusa would return to normal, parts of Mapusa were still facing water shortage.
“The PWD minister had assured that, from Thursday, 15 MLD will be supplied to Mapusa daily. But many parts of Mapusa are not receiving adequate water and few areas are still getting dirty water. Why should we pay the bills for such services from the department? Some people are getting only 30 minutes of water,” Asolkar said.
Another local said that last Ganesh Chaturthi the people of Mapusa had a tough time due to shortage of water. “Since last year, the people of Mapusa are struggling without proper water supply. We hope this time there is some permanent solution in place to supply proper water,” she said.
