MAPUSA: A delegation of Mapusa residents led by NCP General Secretary Sanjay Barde confronted, on Friday, the PWD Assistant Engineer Subhash Belgaonkar, demanded an answer for the poor water supply plaguing the town for over a week.
The residents vented their frustration and argued with the official over the water shortage. Some residents blamed the PWD officials for allegedly supplying water to housing board, but failing to provide water to the surrounding areas.
AE Belgaonkar tried to clarify that water shortage had occurred due to the breach of the WRD pipeline supplying raw water from the Amtane Dam to the Assonora Water Treatment plant. The residents however refused to believe him and blamed the PWD staff for indulging in corrupt practices.
Sanjay Barde pointed out that the locals have not been receiving water over the last few days and this would go on for the next few days. “The Assistant Engineer is doing nothing, but just giving excuses to the locals. There is enough of water supply at the Assonora Water Treatment plant,” he said.
“The officials from the PWD fix duplicate pumps which are cheap and not durable and hence the problem in pumping occurs. We have noticed that plenty of water is supplied to the hotels and commercial establishments but regular water supply has been denied to the common man,” Barde said.
The Assistant Engineer assured the agitated residents that he would provide them regular water supply within the next two to three days.
“The repair works of the raw water pipeline is being carried out; once the works are completed, the residents will get proper water supply and things will return to normalcy once again,” Belgaonkar said.
