Mapusa RTI activist files anticipatory bail application

MARGAO: RTI activist Jawaharlal Shetye of Khorlim, Mapusa, who was booked by the Mapusa police in a forgery case, on Monday filed an anticipatory bail application before the Panjim Sessions Court. The application will be heard on Tuesday afternoon. The Mapusa police have registered a case against Shetye for allegedly impersonating the Mapusa Municipal chief officer and  allegedly forging the content of the notice for hearing issued by the chief officer to the Mapusa traders, who had defaulted in renewing their leases. Due to the alleged forgery, the notice deferred from the original notice issued to the defaulters, said the police.

However, Shetye in his anticipatory bail application stated that he is a social activist and was responsible for exposing dereliction of duties, arbitrary action and other corrupt decisions taking place in various government departments through the RTI Act.
