MAPUSA: In the wake of several instances of ATM thefts, Mapusa SDPO Jivba Dalvi held a meeting with senior officials from banks located in his jurisdiction to discuss security measures that need to be taken to prevent such break-ins. The meeting was attended by the officials of banks located in the jurisdiction of the Anjuna, Colvale and Mapusa police.
SDPO Dalvi stressed that action needs to be taken to deter ATM robberies to ensure that people still feel secure to deposit their money in banks.
The police pointed out that there are very few ATM kiosks that are manned by security guards in the jurisdiction of the Mapusa police Sub Division. Hence, the bank officials were requested to depute a
security guard at their respective banks’ ATM kiosks.
In response, a bank official requested the police department to issue a written request to the bank management, requesting that they employ security guards to watch over their ATMS. Accordingly, such letters were drafted and handed over to the officials. Further, the SDPO Mapusa also created a WhatsApp group of all the bank
officials and police personnel, to enable direct communication in case of emergencies.
Dalvi also appealed to the bank officials to maintain a register at all the ATM kiosks so that beat policemen can record the timings of their visits during night patrolling.
The bank officials were also requested to text their feedback on the group regarding the visits of the beat staff to maintain effective patrolling.
All the bank officials were requested to go through the CCTV footage of cameras installed in and around the ATM kiosks on a daily basis to see if there is any suspicious activity in the vicinity at night, so that timely action can be taken.
This meeting was called for upon the instruction of Goa DGP Jaspal Singh.
