Mapusa: The Mapusa Sub Division police office Rs 16 lakh penalties under the violation of Motor Vehicle Act (MVA) since February and has issued 300 notices for traffic violation under their photography initiative.
In action against traffic rule violation, Mapusa Sub Division had started aggressive mission of challaning the traffic violators. Mapusas SDPO Jivba Dalvi informed that the Anjuna Police booked 1116 cases and have collected an amount of Rs 6,44,000 as fine, while the Mapusa Police booked 951 cases and an amount of Rs 4,82,000 was collected. Similarly the Colvale Police Station booked 756 cases and collected Rs 4,77,500 making a total collection of Rs 16,03,500 from the February and till March 7.
In the photography initiative, Anjuna Police issued 80 notices to traffic violators while the Mapusa and Colvale police issued 70 notices each, thus generating fear in the mind of public that Police in civil uniform are clicking pictures and issuing notices for traffic violators, thereby eliminating the chances of traffic violation.
As per SDPO Mapusa Dalvi although violations have reduced, there are riders still riding without helmets and hence the drive will continue further.
