Mapusa SDPO seizes 11 motorbikes of minor riders

MAPUSA: The Mapusa Sub-Division Police Officer on Thursday seized 11 motorbikes of the minor riders after a surprise drive was conducted to check Motor Vehicles Act violations in an around school premises.

SDPO Mapusa Jivba Dalvi said, “During the drive three motorbikes were seized by Mapusa Police Station while the Colvale police team seized seven motorbikes and one was seized by Anjuna Police.”

Dalvi informed that the parents of the minor children and the bike owners were called at the police stations and counselling was done.

“As this is their first offence, they were warned and a report will be submitted to the Education Department and other authorities,” Dalvi added.

The police have also issued challans to the parents/owners of the vehicles under Section 4 (allowing minor to ride/drive motor vehicle) and Section 5 (allowing unauthorised person to ride/drive motor vehicle and for contravention of Section 3 and 4 and contravention of rules under Section 181 of Motor Vehicles Act Rule).

Dalvi said that the drive will continue and stringent action will be initiated henceforth against the minor children and their parents. 

The drive was conducted under supervision of Superintendant of Police North Nidhin Valsan, SDPO Mapusa Jivba Dalvi, Police Inspector of Colvale Police Station Somnath Mahajik, Police Inspector of Mapusa Police Station Paresh Naik and Police Inspector of Anjuna Police Station Prashal Dessai.
