Mapusa, surrounding areas to receive power 24×7

MAPUSA: Power Minister Nilesh Cabral inaugurated the new power substation at Karaswada during an online ceremony.

This is the first time that a power substation was inaugurated online.

Cabral informed that the Mapusa substation was loaded with 90 per cent capacity since along with Mapusa it used to also supply power to industrial establishment due to which, some areas of the town used to face constant power fluctuations. 

“Having a separate substation at Karaswada was very much required. This substation at Karaswada has two transformers of 10 MBA installed which will supply power to 10,000 domestic consumers and 10,000 commercial consumers,” Cabral said.

From main station, 12 MBA load will be transferred to Karaswada substation as a result, Mapusa and surrounding areas will receive power 24×7 including areas such as Karaswada Industrial Estate,  Duler, Acoi, Anjuna, Colvale, Sodiem, Cunchelim, parts of Guirim, Parra and Assagao, two industrial estates and others.

EE Pradip Narvekar informed that some works are still pending which will be completed in next one or two months after which it will be ready to function. 

Overhead structure is avoided and provision has been kept to have underground system.

Meanwhile, Joshua informed that Rs 1.31 crore underground cabling project for Mapusa is underway.

Others present were CM Pramod Sawant, Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza, Tivim MLA Nilkanth Halarnkar AE and Pradip Narvekar.
