MAPUSA: The Mapusa Tenants and Mundkar Association has assailed the government for allegedly depriving their rights by amending the Agricultural Tenancy Act.
Addressing a meeting of tenants and mundkars at Mapusa, Association President Narayan Mayekar said, “We are fighting for our rights since the last two and half year for their interest. But the government has not amended the Agricultural Tenancy Act to restore the jurisdiction to the mamlatdars. We will not stop our fight till this or the next government gives back the land of farmers and tenants.”
Sanjay Barde, a member of the association, said, “We are not opposing development of Mapusa, but the Mapusa MLA is trying to complete twenty years work in three months. He has acquired twenty lakh sq mt of land of farmers for the development of Mapusa without taking them into confidence.”
He said that before the election code of conduct comes into force, the tenants and mundkars would hold a public to project the power of Bhahujan samaj.
“We smell scam in the acquisition of twenty lakh sq mt of land for the development of Mapusa. We oppose ODP because we don’t require ODP. We want this government to implement the 2021 regional plan which will be more beneficial,” Barde said.
