Mapusa turning into favourite dumping ground for garbage

Mapusa: The Mapusa Municipal Council is facing the issue of garbage from outside the TOWN as people entering it keep dumping their waste near the municipal dustbins at Duler, Dattawadi, Canca and Tar junction.

Since the municipality is collecting the dry and wet waste from each household, 90% of the garbage issue within the municipal area is solved but the waste that is dumped by non-city residents is dirtying the image of the city.

Meanwhile, the deputy chairperson Viraj Fadke said that the municipal delegation will be visiting Bangalore and Pune to see how the municipal corporations in these cities carry out waste management. “The council is also has plans to convert waste into ‘wealth’ by using modern technology,” he said.

Currently waste from Mapusa is sent to the Saligao waste treatment plant.

There is a shortage of civic workers

and hence garbage keeps getting piled up in the evening, even if it is collected in the morning.

“The municipality has to collect garbage in the morning and in the evening,” said ward 19 councillor and former deputy chairperson Sudhir Kandolkar.
