Mapusa’s Dangui Colony residents raise concern over dangerous T-junction

MAPUSA: Concerns have been voiced by the residents of Dangui Colony Mapusa regarding a treacherous T-junction near their society, which they say has become a hotspot for accidents.

On a recent Saturday, a group of concerned citizens met at the junction to focus attention to the issue, placing the blame on the local municipality for its alleged failure to initiate road widening efforts.

Residents have pointed out that the presence of a water chamber on one side of the road coupled with a steep slope has rendered this intersection particularly perilous for daily commuters. Despite having lodged complaints with the Municipal Council (MMC) on multiple occasions, residents lament that no significant action has been taken thus far. They urgently called on the MMC to address the matter promptly and resolve the issue.

Citizen Salman Khan said, “For the past one year, we have corresponded with the municipality about this very issue.

On one side stands the water chamber, while on the other, towering iron sheets have been erected, greatly constricting the road. The road’s condition is also deteriorating, and the narrow T-junction has proven to be a catalyst for accidents. It’s the common people who are suffering.”

It has been alleged that the municipality’s responsiveness in addressing the grievances of locals has been inadequate. Fears of potential fatalities loom if the road is not expanded.

The congestion of this narrow road during peak hours is made worse by commuters, particularly students and parents, who opt to utilize this route as an alternative to the signal on the MDR road. Community members fervently beseech the municipality to take swift action and alleviate the growing safety concerns surrounding this critical T-junction.
