Marathi convention for official status on Nov 13

PONDA: Marathi Rajyabasha Samithi (MRS) has decided to show its might on November 13 in its Nirdhar Melava (convention) by assembling around 10,000 Marathi lovers.

Addressing the media in Ponda, former MLA Mohan Amshekar, an MRS member, said that the convention is being organised to show the strength of Marathi lovers in Goa.
He said that Panjim MLA Siddharth Cuncoliekar had suggested in assembly that public opinion on giving official status to Marathi be taken before amending the Official Language Act to treat Marathi on par with Konkani.
Amshekar clarified that the agitation of MRS is not the same as that of Bhartiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch which is agitating against government grant to English medium primary schools.
