PONDA: The farmers attached to Marcaim Bar Amre Khajan Tenant Association in its meeting have opposed the proposal for auctioning of sluice gate for fishing activities.
The farmers told the adhoc committee that before auction, let the previous committee submit audited income and expenditure statement for past six years, which they failed to submit despite repeated demands.
Premanand Gaude, who is member of the adhoc committee recently appointed by farmers, speaking to O Heraldo, said the meeting was held to discuss auctioning of sluice gate as the breach in bandharas, as well sluice gate, were repaired and restored recently.
He said even Ponda Mamlatdar had suggested auctioning of sluice gates as the breached bandharas have been repaired.
However farmers insisted that the previous committee, which was looking after affairs of Bar Amre Khajan Tenant Association, should submit the audited accounts of income and expenditure statement for past six years.
“It may be recalled that in the month of February, there was uproar over breach in bandhara in vast agriculture land, leading to submerging of vast Bar Amre Khajan field at Marcaim, where around 600 farmers cultivate on khazan land, were forced to keep their land fallow due to their fields getting submerged under saline water.
The farmers were furious over non-maintenance of bandhara. Following this, series of meetings were held, wherein the committee failed to submit audited statement. The farmers alleged scam in account to the tune of several crore.
Later the previous committee was dissolved and the adhoc committee was elected in presence of Ponda Mamlatdar to probe into the matter.
