PONDA: Alleging that the State government totally failed to take effective measures to prevent spread of COVID 19 cases, Marcaim MLA Sudin Dhavalikar on Monday demanded immediate 15 days lockdown before the situation could further worsen in the State.
He said, “‘Sarkaran Bhivpachi Garaz Asaa’, at least looking at the COVID cases and deaths increasing at an alarming rate in the State.”
“The medical staff taking care of the COVID patients including doctors and nurses are under tremendous pressure to look after the rising cases and what the government will do if they stop working due to the crisis,” he added.
Dhavalikar was speaking to the media persons after launching of the COVID vaccination drive at Talavalim Panchayat. He also criticised the Tourism Minister for taking part in a marriage ceremony and violating the social distancing norm.
Dhavalikar said that before declaring the lockdown, the government should provide at least 15 days to one month sufficient ration and essential commodities free of cost to around 1.85 lakh families in the State.
He demanded that if State like Maharashtra get Rs 5,000 crore for COVID management, Goa should get at least Rs 100 crore to handle COVID cases.
“Since last year, I was insisting to arrange for oxygen and ventilators but the government did not work on it,” he added.
He also demanded that the government adopt austerity measures including cut in salaries so that this money could be utilised for COVID management.
Dhavalikar said that he was the first MLA that took the initiative for vaccination of people from his constituency with around 2,000 getting the jabs.
