PONDA: The Electricity Department has disconnected power to the police outpost at Marcel over non-payment of bills amounting to Rs 85,000 pending for nearly 18 months.

Following the disconnection of power the Marcel police outpost staff were forced to undergo hardship on Monday.

According to Police sources, the bill is pending due to confusion over jurisdiction.

It may be recalled that earlier the Ponda Police Station and its outpost were under North District and accounts head from North was clearing bills.  However, a few months ago, for administrative purpose, the Ponda Police station has been brought under South District. Now, confusion prevails as to which district administration would clear the pending bills.

Electricity Department officials said since the Marcel Police outpost functions in a private property, they had acted as per the directions of senior officials and disconnected the power due to pending bills.

However, as the Electricity Department learnt about the inconvenience caused to police staff, there were discussions between officials of both departments to settle the issue on priority.
