Staff shortage at electricity office has led to delay in attending to their complaints

PONDA: Marcel residents for the past one month have been facing power outages and to add to their woes, the staff shortage at Marcel Electricity office has led to the delay in attending to their complaints. 

The office is facing staff crunch following the Borim truck accident last month wherein three employees lost their lives and three others sustained seriously injuries.  The injured have been advised bed rest. 

Currently, there is shortage of six employees and the department has cancelled the night shift duty which has affected the locals as they are kept in the wait to get their complaints addressed with regards to power outages. 

It is pertinent to note that Marcel Electricity Office has to look after the vast hilly area with three panchayats in Priol constituency. Following heavy rains in the past month, several trees collapsed on the power lines and the linesmen had a tough time in restoring the power due to staff crunch.

Electricity Department sources informed that there were 20 employees attached to the Marcel Electricity Office. After the Borim accident, the office strength has been reduced to 14 besides a JE. Despite this the staff crunch, the current employees are giving their level best to provide better service to locals. 

Sources said Chief Engineer has been informed about the staff shortage. 

Tivre Deputy Sarpanch Jayesh Naik said, “Locals complain of the delay in attending to their complaints and this is due to staff shortage. Since past one month, we are facing hardship. It is learnt from sources that Marcel is growing with new constructions and that at least 25 employees are needed to attend to various problems.”
