PONDA: With the burglary case registered at Ponda Police Station completing one year on March 12, the Khadpaband-Ponda family on Tuesday demanded with the Ponda Police to expedite the investigation process and book the accused at the earliest.

The family alleged that the police investigation is progressing at slow pace and is unhappy with the way the police team is investigating the matter.

Sameer Kavlekar had lodged the complaint with Ponda Police a year ago.

His wife said that her gold ornaments including three mangalsutras, beside gold chains of her son and husband, gold bangles, rings, earrings etc worth around Rs 14 lakh were stolen by breaking the main door of their flat located on the fifth floor of Khadpanband Garden Building, at Khadpaband-Ponda, between 5 pm and 7.30 pm, last year, March 12.

While addressing the media persons at Kranti Maidan, Ponda, located opposite the Ponda Police Station, Sameer and his wife said that they are unhappy with the slow pace of investigation and demanded to expedite the investigation.

Sameer said, “At the beginning the police had mentioned that they are on a way to crack the case and in process of recovering the stolen items but finally nothing happened.  We even gave one Scorpio vehicle number plate to Ponda Police based on CCTV footage from the building. However, though the police had investigated that the Scorpio owner was from Bangalore but the case is not progressing.”

Sameer’s wife said, “I was in depression after the theft of entire gold jewellery she had purchased for her marriage. I was very much attached to it as it was having lot of memories, which is related to my family.”

When contacted Ponda Police Inspector Mohan Gaude informed that based on the CCTV footage of one Scorpio vehicle, we had investigated that the Scorpio owner was from Bangalore. However, though the number plate of the vehicle is matched, the vehicle seen in the footage and those of that owned by the Bangalore owner is not matching. However, the matter is further under investigation.”
