PANJIM: The Disaster Management Cell on Saturday set March 31 as the deadline for commercial establishments to comply with fire safety norms or face non renewal of trade licences.
The decision was taken in a meeting of the Collector and District Magistrate and Chairman of the North Goa District Disaster Management.
During the meeting, Fire and Emergency Services was asked to undertake a detailed review of fire safety measures at all important buildings and installations in North Goa to ensure strict compliance with fire safety norms.
“All local bodies like panchayats and municipalities shall have to ensure commercial establishments should comply with fire safety norms by March 31,” the Collector stated.
They have also been directed to refrain from renewing trade licences of defaulting establishments without compliance.
Also, Tourism Department has been asked to ensure that all shacks and huts on beaches, including those in private property, comply with total Fire Safety Norms on or before January 31, 2018.
Fire and Emergency Services has been asked to review fire safety measures of all important buildings and installations in the District to ensure strict compliance.
