PORVORIM: In what could be the next level of advancement in the field of education, by the next academic year parents will be able to keep a virtual eye on what their children are doing in school by sitting in any corner of the world.
Directorate of Education (DoE) has decided to implement the Shaladarshan programme under Digital India initiative to accomplish this.
Shaladarpan comprises a real time updated web based platform and the Shaladarpan Android App which is aimed at digitising day-to-day activities of academic institutions. The schools will maintain an updated online data base for each student as well as teacher through software provided by NIC.
Speaking to Herald, Education Director Gajanan Bhat said, “We have decided to implement the Shaladarshan initiative from the next academic year. Parents will get information about the student on their mobiles or computers using the school provided credentials.”
He added, “Parents and teachers on the go will get information right from attendance to examination papers, syllabus, teachers, study material, school events, sports, midday meal etc. The implementation of Shaladarshan will be made mandatory for government schools as well as aided secondary schools from the next academic year.”
Parents, teachers will have to register with the portal through the school and download the app.
The website, as well as the app, will provide a parent-teacher interface and is aimed at helping parents to regularly monitor their wards. Parents will also receive routine progress reports of their wards, besides their conduct during school hours.
DoE also informed that this system in currently in use in Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh since 2015 on a pilot basis.
