Provided part payment is done by today, says Parrikar

PANJIM: The government has decided to allow payment for conversion of land on which ore is stored till March, provided part of the payment is done by today, Friday, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said Thursday.
Speaking after the cabinet meeting, the chief minister said that the proposal was cleared by the cabinet and 12 per cent interest would be charged, while stressing that this was not an extension of the deadline. The deadline ends Friday.
“Five to six people have already asked for this facility,” the chief minister informed, adding that “if they pay part tomorrow, they will be allowed to pay in installment in February and March along with interest of 12%.”
Parrikar said that as of Thursday, Rs 235 crore has been credited to the exchequer and there would be another Rs 70-80 crore payment done by Friday while another Rs 60-70 crore would be made in the next two months.
According to the terms, the dumps have to be shifted in 5 years and then the land reverts to the original.
“We have taken 5 years fees plus rental,” he said.
He said that just by making a payment, he does not get a right over the ore but he also has to show documentation within six months time while clarifying that the land converted is not forest land.
