PANJIM: In a joint operation on Monday, the Mardol Police, in collaboration with Mamlatdar Ponda and the Mines Department, successfully uncovered a major sand theft operation in Khandola, shocking the local community.
During the meticulously planned raid, authorities made a breakthrough by confiscating a staggering 70 cubic meters of stolen sand concealed on private property. The illicit stockpile was estimated to be worth Rs 91,000, highlighting the scale of this illegal enterprise.
The authorities, acting on credible information, descended upon the location with precision, catching the perpetrators red-handed.
According to sources, Shrikrishna Tari, 74, a resident of Khandola, has been arrested for the theft, and had the large stockpile of sand in storage. This significant seizure marks a pivotal moment in the fight against the rampant illegal sand trade that has plagued the region for years.
Police investigations are currently underway to identify those responsible for the sand theft operation.
Officials remain tight-lipped about further details, but local residents are hopeful that this operation will deter future illegal activities in the area.
