PANJIM: Movement of Amity towards Roads in Goa will host a day long conference on May 26, on ‘Civic Sense and Citizenship’ to inculcate a sense of road safety and civic sense
Speaking to media persons, MARG convenor Gurunath Kelekar said that the conference is been organized to prepare a roadmap or the way ahead for road safety in the state and also to imbibe civic sense amongst the youth.
Around 250 delegates are expected to attend the conference.
“We are not becoming citizens of this country. We are acting just like voters. Youth of today should groom themselves to be citizens of today. For success of democracy we need citizens and not voters,” he commented.
Kelekar, who have been holding road safety awareness drives across the state through MARG, raised the concern that the number of deaths on state roads is not reducing.
“Nearly 400 accidents every year and we wait for the number to reduce. Nothing is happening. We are not frustrated but are eager to know what exactly can be done to reduce these deaths on the roads,” he said adding that State can adopt a model for road safety, which can be an example for the rest of India.
