The seizure includes Rs 2 lakh in the demonetised Rs 500 notes, Rs 8 lakh in notes of Rs 100, Rs 1.74 lakh in notes of Rs 2000 and the rest in Rs 50 and Rs 10 notes.
According to Valpoi police the car was intercepted at around 4am on Monday, during regular checking. Valpoi Police Inspector Dipak Pednekar said they have detained the vehicle along with the occupant, Shahabaz Hussain Mujawar, and handed him over to the Income Tax Department.
Sources said that Mujawar, a Margao-based businessman, had gone to deliver cash to his suppliers in Belgaum and had to return as the supplier was not there in Belgaum.
