MARGAO: Taking serious note of the incident of the “caved in” road incident, Shadow Council for Margao (SCM) on Thursday filed a written complaint against the Sewerage Department contractor for the execution of substandard works posing risks to the lives of the general public.
The SCM has demanded an inquiry into the cause for the sinking of the road and losses caused to the public exchequer on account of the shoddy work be recovered from the defaulting contractor.
The delegation compromising of SCM Convenor Savio Coutinho, Adv Snehal Onskar, Radha Kavlekar, Agostinho Gama, Eduardo Lourenco, and Damodar Onskar submitted the complaint to the Assistant Engineer at his office in Margao.
“The sinking of the portion of the road can very well be attributed to the poor quality work executed by the contractor and deserves to be inquired into and an inquiry report be made public,” SCM Convenor Savio Coutinho demanded.
Through the complaint, the department was also informed that the said contractor has damaged/ destroyed the existing footpath and the contractor to be penalised for the same and be directed to restore the said footpath in proper condition.
Meanwhile, Councillor Camilo Barreto has also demanded the concerned authorities to check the entire stretch of road at the earliest.
