MARGAO: Concerned about the inconvenience to the public and student community, citizens of Margao are demanding the hot mixing of a road that was dug up for laying the North-Main sewerage pipeline. The unfinished road stretches from the South Goa District Hospital to the Old Market in Margao.
A group of citizens, speaking to reporters on Tuesday, expressed their dissatisfaction with the state of affairs in Fatorda, highlighting the need for immediate government attention to construct a proper bus stand in Margao.
The work of replacing the North-Main pipeline in the Sewerage network is still incomplete. The road from the District Hospital to the Old
Market Circle was dug up in several places, and though the now-dusty road has been opened to traffic again, it is yet to be hot mixed.
“Most of the work in this area has been completed, and it is crucial to hot mix the road as soon as possible. If not done before the monsoon, this road will undoubtedly cause inconvenience to commuters, especially the student community,” said Milagres Fernandes, a resident of Fatorda.
Fernandes further appealed to PWD Minister Nilesh Cabra, to take immediate action and ensure the hot mixing of the road, to avoid inconveniencing students and parents when schools reopen on June 5.
“The road conditions after the sewage pipeline replacement are deplorable, posing a serious accident risk. Numerous potholes can be observed along this stretch of road,” he claimed.
He also highlighted the pathetic conditions of the KTC bus stand in Margao and urged the government to take steps toward constructing proper bus stands in Margao or Fatorda.
“This KTC bus stand is a major facility in South Goa, but its conditions are so appalling that it resembles railway
stations in isolated areas,”
he added.
