MARGAO: More citizens are expressing their anger after observing that newly hot-mixed roads are being dug up in several areas in Margao and its surroundings.
It has been reported that in many places, including Konkan Railway station road and Pajifond road, trenches are being dug for laying sewage pipelines, indicating a lack of coordination between government departments.
Last month, the contractor engaged for laying a 1.50 km sewerage pressure line along the KRC station road near ESI Hospital Margao, received a cheeky gift of flowers from Margao citizens, for his ‘grand achievement’ in tearing open the road, which was only recently provided with a hot-mix carpet.
Notably, on Tuesday, residents of Arlem and nearby areas expressed frustration over a pit dug at the Arlem traffic junction, causing major hardships to locals and commuters.
Adv Snehal Onskar, a citizen of Margao, slammed the authorities for unplanned works leading to the damage of a pipeline during digging. The entire line will be shut down for repair work, leaving the public without water supply.
Ireneu Fernandes called for a system where heads of departments could be held responsible in the event of such ‘uncoordinated work’, leading to significant monetary losses to the public exchequer.
Citizens allege that crores of public funds are being spent on development works in Margao. “The fact that all these precious resources are criminally wasted is confirmed with these types of shoddy works,” former Margao civic chairperson Savio Coutinho alleged.
Frustrated with the prevailing situation, a group of citizens has appealed to others to wake up and understand how public funds are wasted in the name of haphazard development works.
