Margao civic body forms task force to tackle monsoon flooding

MARGAO: With the monsoon season approaching, the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) is gearing up to tackle the annual threat of flooding.

Chairperson Damodar Shirodkar announced the formation of a specialised team to implement measures to reduce the impact of flooding. MMC workers are already clearing drains to ensure the smooth flow of rainwater and reduce the risk of flooding in vulnerable areas.

Key areas like the municipal building, Old Station Road, Old Market, and Comba are particularly prone to flooding during heavy rains. The council is prioritising these locations to prevent the disruption caused by recurring inundation.

Shirodkar assured the public that the council is well-prepared to handle any flood-related emergencies. “The civic body has assembled a team of labourers equipped with the necessary tools to swiftly respond to issues as they occur. We have employed this approach in previous monsoon seasons, which proved effective in resolving flood-related problems,” he stated.

The water resources department is also desilting nullahs and drainage channels to further support the council’s flood prevention efforts, the Chairperson added.
